A Slovakian team of inventors has developed a revolutionary vehicle that can take to the skies in the middle of a frustrating traffic jam.
According to Jalopink, the
AeroMobil 2.5 can be driven on standard roads, parked in a standard parking space and fly as a two-seater airplane, able to take off and land at any airport.
The flying car was recently unveiled at AeroTech, an airshow exhibition in Montreal.
It has a maximum speed of 99 mph when driven as a car, but can fly at 124 mph.
The AeroMobil is reportedly part of an ongoing project led by AeroMobil’s Stefan Klein and Jurak Vaculik, who are based in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Tatiana Veber, AeroMobil spokesman said:
“We have been developing the concept of a flying car since 1990. Our first model looked quite bizarre and it would have problems in the regular use.
“That was a signal to improve the concept of the flying car in a way to become an integral part of the regular road traffic. We got a positive feedback from several experts in avionics, which appreciated design and the technical solution of the process of transformation,” she added.
“The car is constructed to be fueled at regular gas stations using the fuel for Rotax 912 ULS engine.”
When driven as a car, the AeroMobil 2.5, built from light-weight steel framework and carbon coating, has a range of 310 miles and measures just over one and a half meters wide.
When converted into a plane, it measures just over eight meters wide and six meters long to fit two people.
Weighing in at 450 kg, the vehicle also has a take-off speed of 90 mph and a range of 430 miles as an airplane.
Allowing it to fly are two wings that fold in and out and a large propeller behind its two back wheels, which sit below two additional fins.
